Prayer is a Key
By Pastor David Larson
If you read the paper or listen to any of the media, it seems there is a war going on. Both National Conventions are over. Each side has put forth their candidates with each one speaking of their abilities and why they would be the best person for office. Then the media takes what was said, picks it apart and tries to tell everyone what they really meant or digs to find as much stuff about each person they can to discredit or ruin them. It becomes a war of words and criticism. Is there hope?

I'm not here to tell anyone how to vote but rather to give a Biblical principle during this election season. The Bible says we are to pray for those in authority. If we're praying for someone, it's hard to slander them. That doesn't mean we don't search out what the candidates believe in or stand for but there's a difference in being wise and being slanderous. There's a difference in searching out information and making decisions without blasting people. Jesus also said, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone." Let's make sure our hearts and lives are right before God first and then pray with clean hands and a pure heart for all those in authority.

Is this election important? Yes! But let's be careful how we speak and act. Remember too that we have a President in office and he needs our prayers at this time. We have a Governor in office, Senators, Representatives, officials at various levels. Let's pray for all those in authority. Why? So we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Even if we don't agree with someone or think they are corrupt we are still to pray. Look in the Word and you'll find corrupt rulers throughout history but the Lord had and has a way of working in and through those people. "The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord; He directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases."  So, let's pray first and then move in obedience to His direction.

Have an awesome day!
